Take your career to the next level and demonstrate your value to employers as an NSPE Emerging Leader! The NSPE Emerging Leader Program Task Force seeks early-career professionals who are prepared to think strategically about their career and begin to assume leadership roles in the industry. In the program’s latest class of emerging leaders, NJSPE celebrates a local PE, Matthew Danza from Freehold, New Jersey. You could be next! We’re looking for the next generation of engineers to fulfill NSPE’s mission:

“Creating a world where the public can be confident that engineering decisions affecting their lives are made by qualified and ethically accountable professionals.”

About the program

This national program features an intensive five-month program with guided instruction and mentorship to engineers seeking to expand their skills through:

  • Examining personal strengths and vulnerabilities
  • Defining leadership and its application in their environment
  • Building personal ownership and motivation
  • Developing cohesive, high-functioning teams
  • Communicating successfully with colleagues and clients
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • Delivering effective presentations

With the help of real work-life scenarios and discussions, this program will prepare participants to excel as leaders in the workplace. Participants will meet virtually January through May 2023 and work through related assignments using an online learning platform.

Expected Timeline

Applications open this month! Before applying, prospective candidates are encouraged to seek the support of their employers in allowing appropriate time to commit to the program. The program timeline will be as follows:

  • June 2022 – Course syllabus available; Application website open
  • August 31, 2022 – Application deadline
  • October 12, 2022 – Participants notified of selection
  • October 26, 2022 – Registration fees due
  • Late-November/Early-December – Orientation meeting for selected participants
  • January – May 2023 – Selected participants complete leadership syllabus
  • August 2023 – Participants attend the national Professional Engineers Conference (PECon) – Location TB
